Overview

A sportsbook may accept Dominican pesos and advertise games from the local winter baseball league without being authorised in the Dominican Republic. There is a simpler test than trusting its footer: the government's gambling authority publishes the actual web addresses it permits to operate.

Its online register currently identifies seven operators. There is also a separate list of unauthorised websites. Check the domain, not just the brand.

Seven listed operators — but not seven identical licences

The Directorate of Casinos and Gambling (DCJA) publishes operators, domains and licence categories. Some entries cover professional sports betting; others also include casino games.

An offshore licence does not replace local approval. Internet operators must meet requirements involving a local company, customer-service facilities, player records and technical oversight. The published administrative fee for an online sports-betting licence is RD$15,355,111.

Traditional betting shops, called bancas deportivas, need separate permits. New premises must generally be at least 500 metres from schools, hospitals, churches and other listed locations, including an existing betting shop. A retail permit should never be treated as proof that every website using the same trading name is authorised.

Baseball is the real local test

Football is prominent on international sportsbooks, but Dominican betting has a different calendar. The winter LIDOM season features teams from Santo Domingo, Santiago, La Romana and San Pedro de Macorís.

In January 2026, Leones del Escogido secured their 18th league title, winning the final series 4–1 against Toros del Este.

For baseball, check whether a bookmaker settles wagers using the official final result, how postponed games are handled, and whether bets on pitchers or individual innings have special conditions.

Such rules matter more than a headline bonus. Offering MLB markets does not prove local authorisation.

Pesos, identity checks and the 2026 tax changes

The Dominican peso (DOP) is the national currency. Before funding an account, check whether the balance is actually held in DOP, whether a payment is converted into US dollars and whether the same banking method can receive withdrawals.

Neither local currency support nor Spanish-language customer service proves licensing.

Online operators must retain player identity and activity data, and withdrawals may involve KYC (Know Your Customer) checks. Check payment limits before depositing.

Taxation is another reason to distrust old betting guides. The Dominican tax authority's guidance updated for Law 30-26 describes changes to withholding on certain gambling prizes from July 2026; rates depend on the prize category and amount.

The figure advertised as a potential return is not necessarily the net amount paid out.

Resolution 184-2026 also created a national self-exclusion framework, requiring safeguards at covered operators.

FAQ

Questions about betting in Dominican Republic

Are online betting sites legal in the Dominican Republic?

Yes, online gambling and sports betting can be authorised. Check the exact website in the DCJA's official list rather than relying on an offshore licence.

Can foreign bookmakers accept Dominican players?

Technical access does not demonstrate Dominican authorisation. The ministry also publishes a list of unapproved websites.

What matters most when choosing a sportsbook?

A verifiable domain, clear withdrawals in the relevant currency, published betting rules and the treatment of taxes are more useful than the size of a welcome offer.
